Hidden Tandy 1000 Video Features Part 1
The Tandy 1000 had a few features in its video chips which could have been useful to software developers but were not used, as far as we know, in contemporary software. The first for which I have a program to demonstrate is smooth vertical scrolling in hardware, which is shown in the first demo. This ability is present in every Tandy 1000 released after the original Tandy 1000/A/HD models. The hardware is slightly different between the Tandy 1000 EX, HX, SX and TX versus the later TL, SL and RL models, but both can perform smooth vertical scrolling with separate code.
This demo was coded by NewRisingSun and run on a Tandy 1000 SX at its stock 7.16MHz 8088. Capturing was done via a combination of a Datapath E1s and an RGB2HDMI. There is no audio in this video, the demo does not produce any and I can live without having recorded the system startup beep.
