It's been a while since I last did a proper solo NFR of Hideous Destructor, hasn't it? Sure, there have been some very nice MP runs, even ones where I managed to do one shots of successfully (though not quite to the levels of NFRs), but for today, it's back to the bones.

Remember what I said back at the Danger Canyon run where I keep the other packs of maps to run with HDest? I've been selecting from the entire contest's roster of maps, recon-ing them one-by-one to see which ones I could finish with Hideous Destructor, these are the results that you now see before you.

Quite a novel idea, making a whole map based on a couple of words. Not a lot of eye-candy details that can be wrought out of the end layout, but the encounters was neat enough that it's not just a long corridor each time. Having some of the enemies possess boosted HP certainly threw me off the first time. You can imagine my surprise to find out that it even functions for HDest's enemies as well, those enemies sure take a lot of ammo to bring down, good thing I carry the superior HDest arsenal.

The map itself is a bit of a danger to run with HDest, though. The teleporters are unpredictable, and could easily drop you off in a fight you can't win if HDest's random patrols disagree with that particular run of yours. Heck, I'm not even sure if LoD's enemies are facing the more fortunate direction either in their initial spawns, treat every teleporter with the most extreme of cautions. Didn't help that I couldn't throw D/HERPs or nades through, too. Everything or nothing, pretty much.

Another musicpack enters the scene. Peter Connelly's OST for Tomb Raider 6: The Angel of Darkness. Always loved the music for that game, even if the game itself is a disaster that sadly didn't reach its full potential. Should make for an interesting listen rather than the boring old D_RUNNIN. Also trying out some new custom textures, nothing extremely spectacular, but it's nice when you're tired of classic Doom textures and want to shake them up a notch. Using DUCK's stuff also helps to slightly alleviate the monotony. I also nicked Joel's mug/voice pack from one of the entries, Joel vs. the Army of Darkness. Quite disorienting when you how how Joel tends to play his maps (especially bigger maps, goodness me, those were a disaster), but I feel it fit the scene well.

Like always, Demo recording + UV/Hideous difficulty.
