Hiker rescued on steep cliff by helicopter after clinging to rock face for over an hour
33The incredible rescue of a hiker was all caught on camera after they became stranded on the side of a cliff on the Pacific Crest Trail in California.
The Riverside County Sheriff's Office Aviation Unit said Rescue 9 was called to the Whitewater area of the trail, just south of San Bernardino County, when the stuck hiker was able to send an emergency text to 911 using her Garmin-type communications device.
Video showed the tense rescue of the woman clinging to the side of the cliff with her legs and arms shaking from exhaustion after managing to hold on for over an hour.
Ultimately, a rescue specialist determined the safest option was to bear hug her and climb to the top.
