After a long, uphill, two-mile hike, Paul and I reached one of the portals for the Apache Mine. The adit had excessive air flow blowing out of it, so we know it leads to extensive workings. Inside the mine we found an inclined shaft going downward but it seemed to dead-end 100 feet down. After passing through one stope chamber that was full of collapse and then coming to another similar chamber further down the tunnel, we decided to postpone further exploration of this mine until a later date when we can return better rested and perhaps with more people. I believe that the Apache Mine tunnel we were in might connect up with other openings that are almost a mile away, so a return trip will be forthcoming. Stay tuned!
