HITMAN 3 PREVIEW
Having recently replayed a few missions from Hitman 1 and 2, I was reminded of how incredible these games are for anyone who wants to live the fantasy of being a smooth, ruthless, and calculated stealth assassin. But what can we expect from Hitman 3? How is IO interactive improving on the formula, and what are they bringing back from the first two games that made them so hard to put down? Based on numerous blog posts, developer commentaries, and the recent coverage on Game Informer, which I’ll be referencing a lot in this video, I’ve discovered quite a bit. So, if you’re as excited as I am for Agent 47’s latest adventure, I hope you’ll join me as I look at 11 gameplay details that might just surprise you, about Hitman 3.

The New Camera does more than you might think
As you probably know one of Agent 47’s new tools in Hitman 3 is his camera. We’ve seen how it can be used to scan and hack certain devices, like for example, the lock on this window. But it does more than just open doors. It can also be used to send photographic evidence back to HQ. In one instance, you need to discover how someone died. To do so, you use your camera to scan the body, which reveals markings that help you deduce how he died. And if you just need to take a photo of something to remember later on, you can do that as well. But wait, there’s more. As you may know, if you own either Hitman 1 or 2, the levels from those games will be playable in Hitman 3. And the camera has actually been retrofitted to work in those levels. Unfortunately, it doesn’t sound like this will affect core mission objectives. However, legacy levels will feature what Game Informer called photography challenges. They didn’t go into detail, but I’m guessing these will require players to take pictures of certain scenes or scenarios to earn rewards. It’s not game changing, but it’s a cool way to add new content for players who plan on revisiting Hitman 1 and 2.

The game will feature 5 game modes
In an official blog post that seems to have been removed from IO’s website, the developer outlined five different modes to be featured in Hitman 3, all of which should be familiar to fans of the series. The first mode is the Campaign, where you’ll play through the game’s story, which by the way, features six missions, each taking you to a different location around the world. Next are Elusive Targets. For the uninitiated, Elusive Targets are special, well, targets, that appear in levels for a limited time. You can only locate and assassinate them by using vague clues, and you can only assassinate them once. Plus, if you make an attempt on an elusive target and fail, you don’t get to try again, which adds to the suspense. The third mode is called Escalations. Here the game remixes levels by adding new challenges that raise the difficulty. These might include more security cameras, or fewer disguise options. Next is Contracts Mode. Now, I never took part in Contracts Mode in the previous games, but here’s how I understand it. You basically design your own contracts within existing missions by selecting NPCs as targets, then deciding how they need to be assassinated. Once you complete a contract that you create, you can then challenge friends to complete it. One fun feature here is that IO will choose the best user made contracts and turn them into Featured Contracts, highlighting them for the entire community. The last mode in Hitman 3 is called Sniper Assassin. As put by the official Hitman site, Sniper Assassin mode “tasks you with eliminating targets and guards without triggering an alarm, whilst completing challenges to boost your score multiplier.” If you want to do more research on each of these modes, you can read more by clicking the link in the description.
