Elden Ring: The Big Hidetaka Miyazaki Interview - Summer of Gaming
https://www.ign.com/articles/elden-ring-miyazaki-hidetaka-full-interview-summer-of-gaming

Elden Ring is no doubt one of the most anticipated and talked about games set to release in 2022. But even if you’ve watched the gameplay trailer 50 times without blinking, and even if you read IGN’s recent interview with Elden Ring mastermind Hidetaka Miyazaki, there’s still some information you might not know. In fact, in the more recent interview with Japanese outlet Famitsu, Miyazaki revealed even more details, and I feel some of them either went under the radar, or are worth looking at in more detail. And that’s exactly what I’m going to do in this video. Now, bear in mind that the Famitsu interview was in Japanese, so I’ll be referencing an english translation posted to Reddit by user TheAngryFurlong. You can find links to the translation in the description below. And with that out of the way, let's look at 6 gameplay details you might still not know, about Elden Ring.

Maybe you can relate, but when a new From Software game releases, I always ask myself, will this be their hardest game yet? Well, when it comes to Elden Ring the answer appears to be, no. When asked directly in his Famitsu interview whether Elden Ring will be more difficult than Sekiro and Bloodborne, Hidetaka Miyazak responded. “That's a difficult question, but I think it will be less difficult mechanically compared to the titles you mentioned. Sekiro is perhaps an easier comparison, because in Elden Ring you can choose to level up or engage in co-op play. In that way, I think it's closer in difficulty to Dark Souls 3. Even compared with Dark Souls 3, you have new strategic options, summoning spirits, and stealth. This along with a lower barrier to engage in coop play should mean that while it will still be a meaty challenge, you should be able to get through it.”

Now, for those who don’t know, Elden Ring will allow you to summon spirits, which will take the form of some of the game’s many enemies, but when you summon them, they’ll fight alongside you as an ally. As for the stealth mechanics Miyazaki mentioned, those include, crouching, hiding in grass, and scoping out enemies before you take them on - that should sound familiar to fans of Sekiro. It’s also worth mentioning that Elden Ring will have a jump mechanic, which should provide some added agility. Now, unlike Sekiro, but similar to Bloodborne and the Souls games, you can level up your character in Elden Ring, so it sounds like you can leave a tough encounter, grind a bit, then come back when you’ve got a stronger build. All this, plus more accessible co-op will apparently give players more options than in previous FromSoft games to take on the game’s tougher challenges. Now, this doesn’t necessarily mean bosses and enemies will be easier. I think it’s fair to say Elden Ring will be incredibly challenging, but it does seem like players who experiment will be able to overcome certain challenges in ways that suit their playstyle. This is in stark contrast to Sekiro, which pretty much forced you to play its way.

All that said, one thing worth mentioning is that, while bosses are still likely to provide that classic Miyazaki challenge, it does sound like Elden Ring will allow players to bypass more bosses than previous From Software games. When talking about the game’s open world Miyazaki said “this game is designed with freedom in mind; you can put off fighting hard bosses, and some but not all bosses need not be beaten at all.
