HOLLOW COCOON | Full Game Walkthrough | No Commentary
85Right as we are nearing the end of 2023 we are archiving a game I have been looking forward to for a while! I discovered Hollow Cocoon during the Steam Next Fest event and was absolutely blown away by the graphics and atmosphere.
We play as a young man who visits the estate of his grandparents in the countryside of Japan in the 80's. Immediately it becomes apparent how gorgeous this game is with its impressive colors and detailed environments. What's great too is that this is made on the Unity engine so it showcases that other engines besides Unreal 5 can also provide beautiful vistas.
It does not take long before something is amiss and we are followed by an evil and scary creature. Now it is up to us to discover the truth about our family bloodline and always have to be one step ahead of the monster. The puzzles are very much in the style of Silent Hill and Resident Evil where you have a mixture between finding certain key items and solving riddles and puzzles with the help of documents.
I do wish more of the game would play out during the day or in those beautiful and colorful environments since I wanted more of that. For most of the game you are sneaking through dark, brown hallways and it would have been great to have a bit more variety. But overall its a great purchase with a great pricing point and should be experienced by anyone who is a fan of horror or Japanese games.
