After this video was made Hollow Knight has been updated to a new version 1.5xx. Rather than down patch to use mods it is now easier to just use the new scarab mod installer. Check out Fireb0rn's video here:

Modding on Hollow Knight is pretty easy and straight forward. In this video I will go over the basics of modding and how to play with several different mods.

This is only the beginning to modding. If you have questions on how to install mods outside of the mod installer, that is beyond the scope of this video.

How to Mod Hollow Knight:
1. You must own and have the latest version installed.
- The

2. You Should backup your save game files before installing mods!! (info below)

3. Download the ModInstaller (updated to 2.0):
- Go to the Hollow Knight Discord:

- In the pinned comments find the link to the Mod installer for your OS (Windows/ Mac).
- Download the installer

4. Open theModInstaller and Verify the location of your game:
- default file paths are below in the FAQ

5. This will open the ModManager where you can Install the mods listed.
- Many mods will have a readme file after you download the mod

6. After you install, use the readme file to see what the mod does or use this summaries doc:

7. After you install click "Enable" to run the mod. If the box says "disable" it means the mod is currently working.

8. Run Hollow Knight as normal. Follow any extra instructions from the readme file as needed
- If you have a controller, You made need to unplug the controller, launch the game, then plug back in after you get to the title screen.

If you were using Installer 1 and it is no longer working, it is because an important update happened that messed up auto updates.

To address this:
1) Delete your current installer exe and any AU.exe file that is next to it.
2) Clear all installer memory files/reset it
- (see below)
3) Clear your browser file cache
4) Redownload the Installer
- Download from the Hollow Knight Discord #Modding-Help

To reset the mod installer:
- Windows Installer 1
Go to:
%appdata%\..\Local
and delete the folder
ModInstaller
Then run the installer again.

- Windows Installer 2
Go to :
%APPDATA%
and delete
HKInstallerSettings.json
Then run the installer again.

Mac
You can reset the path by deleting
~/.config/HKInstallerSettings.json
