Hollow Knight - Redwing/Blackmoth Playthrough Part 1 - Playing with Fire
This is the first part of a Hollow Knight playthrough of the Redwing mod (created by Avenging Angle) and Blackmoth mod (created by Gradow) up to the point of killing the three dreamers and the Hollow Knight, with timestamps below. Special thanks to emodeca for fixing some of the graphical errors that occurred with Redwing when paired with the Godmaster update. There is a bug where you constantly have a full soul bar so I attempt to avoid spells where possible.
Redwing gives you several fire-themed abilities, most notable a fire shield that seems to generously give iframes (including for environmental hazards like acid or spikes). You also gain a powerful fire counterattack when hurt by an enemy. Healing also has a beam of flame injure enemies. But most interestingly the dialogue is changed and the endings (at least the three base endings) appear to be modified a bit. As a result I try to listen to dialogue to note the changes (not always successfully).
Blackmoth has you begin with normal dashing and sharp shadow from the start (though you have iframes you as per the shade cloak you cannot cross shadow barriers at the start), with damage equal to your current nail (Blackmoth as a standalone should set nail damage to 1 but with Redwing the nail appears to do normal damage). The Mothwing Cloak allows you to dash in eight directions. Charms with Longnail or Mark of Pride increase the dash length and charms like Dashmaster allow multiple air dashes, with Quick Slash allowing you to air dash indefinitely. There's also some shenanigans with being able to dash through walls (the readme says the Shade Cloak should allow this but the sharp shadow charm appeared to do it).
This will likely be done in two parts, the second of which will collect everything pre-Godmaster and finish with the other two endings to end at 107%.
While having dashing from the get-go means you can immediately go to Fungal Wastes, I did not want Zote dead from picking up the Mantis Claw, so the beginning is pretty straightforward (especially since the crossroads become infected really fast).
