HoloCure is a free to play action/rogue/survivor game that came out on August 16th, 2023. It was developed and published by KayAnimate.

I noticed this game was free on Steam when I was taking a break from Starfield, and decided I would check it out since I heard about Vampire Survivors from a co-worker a while back, and liked it. I never really played survivor games before then, but I liked how relaxing it was compared to a lot of other games I play.

This game is definitely a lot like other survivor games. You kill enemies, collect XP, get a random roll of upgrades to pick from, get stronger, try to survive, and eventually either die, or survive the timer. I didn't live long enough in my first run to see how long the timer is, but I am going to assume it is 30 minutes like other similar games. Dying is all part of the process!

I don't really watch vtubers, so I don't know if these are based off of actual people, or just characters 🤷‍♂️If you are a fan of Hololive, or vtubers, then this may add another layer of fun for you! I am sure there are easter eggs or references I won't get, but you may lol

The controls feel solid so far! It plays just like you would expect a survivor game to play. I didn't have any trouble moving my character around, and it felt smooth with a controller.

The graphics are nice! I like pixelated art a lot, so it definitely was one of the reasons I wanted to try this game out! It reminded me of playing like SNES games back in the day, so I can get behind graphics like this.

I really have a soft spot for chiptune, or retro gaming music, so I can say that I like the music so far. It's pretty much music you would expect to hear in an anime, or in older video games. Not sure if this is music from Hololive or not, but it's not bad. Not what I normally listen to, but it sounds good!

The upgrades so far seem like standard rogue/survivor stuff. Stat buffs, weapons, abilities, etc. That's fine with me, it makes it easy to pick up and play since I've played other games like this.

I am sure there is a bunch of stuff to unlock, even just looking at the roster when starting the game the first time! You start with 5/38 characters, so that will help with replayability! I also noticed that I unlocked a few new items after I died my first time. I am glad to see a lot of stuff to earn, that always helps keep me interested.

If you are looking for a free game to play, a rogue/survivor game, a game about Hololive or vtubers, or any mix of these things, I would say check it out and see if you like it! If not, it won't cost you anything but a few short moments of Downloading and uninstalling it since it is free.
