Hot In Bangkok: Jungle Curry & Royal Chilli Paste | In Search Of Heat
In this episode, Kevin finds himself in Bangkok, one of the world’s top tourist destinations. But he’s steering away from the stereotypical pad thai and tom yum goong dishes.
His first stop: Talaad Thai Market, Thailand’s biggest central market for agricultural products. Here, he meets up with a local professional chef who wants to introduce him to one of Central Thailand’s spiciest dishes - a unique Thai curry that was traditionally prepared with ingredients gathered from the wild. Next up, Kevin follows the Chao Phraya River to the outskirts of the city to a small island called Koh Kret. Here, he visits a heritage restaurant that brings diners on a journey back in time to experience the origin of a royal dish and its connection to heat.
Finally, Kevin winds up back in the streets of Bangkok to visit the Nam Prik Queen of Lak Praw - an expert that whips up a widespread variety of Thai sambals ranging from mainstream delicacies to exotic acquired tastes.
