G'day all MrPaladin here.

Here's a few things to remember about your disguise choices.

1- When you disguise uncloaked, you flash your team color and you cause a lot of smoke, you don't see it from your POV but the smoke lasts as long as the spy image that flashes onto your screen. If you have to disguise around enemies you should do it while under a cloak so there is no smoke

2. Changing a disguise is faster than applying a disguise.

3- You can change the team color of your disguise before you select it by pressing "-" the minus key. This is used to either hide you from the spawn "wallhack" of spawning players or to head into battle from your spawn with a dead ringer so the enemy does not know they killed a spy.

4- A spy runs faster than most classes, applying a disguise will slow you to match your disguised class, but it will not speed you up... if you don't wish to lose your spy speed select a SCOUT or MEDIC disguise. You wont run as fast as a scout but you wont run as slow as a heavy.

5- Your disguise only ever fools a sentrygun or a programmed MvM bot. Don't expect your disguise to work 100% of the time on a human. There are many factors people can pick up on a disguise (wrong place/time/name/class/objective/weapon/action)

6- While most people have autoreload on, if you reload your weapon while disguised your disguise will appear to also reload. This can sometimes help and act but for weapons such as a flamethrower or minigun which do not reload it can also point you out as a spy.

7- Voice commands when used under a disguise will sound like the disguise and can help. But if it also puts text on the screen the enemy may realize they did not talk at all and warn their teammates.

8- Be careful about calling for medic, if you call for medic then activate a cloak or dead ringer your medic bubble can follow you. The medic call can also betray your disguises health. If your disguise is critically wounded but you are not the medic call will not show critical!

9- If you pick a class that the enemy does not have there is a chance you could appear to hold the wrong weapon. You can fix this by either changing the disguise again Or change the item the disguise is holding by switching to a weapon that matches the slot and pressing "B" (EG, for a medic disguise to hold a medigun, pull out your sapper and press B)

10- You can quick disguise as the last disguised class by pressing B

11- I change my disguise with the 1thru9 keys and enable fast weapon switching. This may not be comfortable for you but it's what I use.

12- I have a custom hud to show me what my disguise is wearing to make it more obvious, see my FAQ link for details on the HUD

13- Enemies that spawn will see you via the spawn wallhack where they see all teammates, anyone hunting for you as a dead ringer spy will see you and call you out. Consider either wearing a friendly disguise closer to their spawn area OR changing to an invis or cloak and dagger so they cant abuse this "feature"

14- Disguising as a ally spy will simply remove your disguise. You are an ally spy.

Quick notes about specific class disguises
Scout: Expected everywhere, you will appear slow, try jumping a lot and getting on objects, betrays the location of your head hitbox. Can let you see over some ledges without the enemy seeing you because of low profile.
Soldier: Slow, Good to fool a medic into a heal/pocket/uber
Pyro: Expected everywhere, is strange that you are not firing, sometimes missing HEAD or LEGS! The Pyro will often see themselves and immediatly hunt you!
Demoman: Slow, Strange if not firing or reloading, Good to fool a medic into a heal/pocket/uber
Heavy: Slow, Good to fool a medic into a heal/pocket/uber
Engineer: Expected in backlines, odd if you are not building/repairing, enemy engineer will see you. most likely not to have a blue engineer so be wary as a red spy to pick this as it often causes weapon glitch.
Medic: Is a passive class, expected everywhere, the real medic will call you out, I recommend changing item to hold the Medigun. Enemies will expect you to heal constantly!
Sniper: Expected in backlines, your disguise can't scope! May seem odd running around with wrong weapon out.
Spy: Gets checked constantly BUT is expected to be with their "enemy" is often a good first disguise. Consider changing the weapon held to appear to be a revolver
