A progress reel of my shot in “Can I Get A Chee Hoo?“
This was a short but really fun shot to animate on Moana 2. The challenging part of this was figuring out how to cram a lot of movements and information in a very short shot while making sure to hit the beats that where pretty close together.
I had to learn into my cartoony animation timing to pop between poses but still make the weight and physicality believable.
I only had the spinning fire FX to work with in CG but wanted to sell the fire being lit on the oar as well so I did a hand drawn 2d fire pass to show the directors what I was hoping for and then the amazing FX team took it home and made it beautiful. Thanks to the awesome #animation guidance and supervision by @graham_silva .
Stay tuned later this week. for a live action reference fail from this shot that I still laugh about.
