How Moana 2 was Animated? | Full Shot Progression Breakdown
👉 **Unfortunately, we’re not really allowed to share shots with audio for legal reasons **
A progress video from Moana 2 of another musical shot from what could be better than this This shot took me about a month to animate and I kinda had to #choreograph the movement myself because this ending changed and wasn’t figured out ahead of time like the rest of the song was by a professional choreographer. I always love shots that make me have to lean back into my old musical theatre life before I moved to LA. It was fun making everyone move to the music while still feeling the unique behavior of each character.
You can also see that from the blocking stage to the final a lot changed numerous times through the process. The camera angle changed, even the lyrics and the way the song ends was different by the time I finished.
And a little fun thing that I added for myself to make me laugh is, this is the one time you’ll actually see Pua singing along even though he can’t talk. The directors said that they liked it because it was a heightened reality song sequence that was a bit more fantastical so it could live in that world for a moment.
Enjoy.
