Finishing music is an art in Itself.
When I talk with fellow composers and artists we all share a common problem and that is that we often get stuck in the loop. We get hung up on adjusting that loop into perfection. This prevents us from actually finishing the song. We get tired of the track and move on to more fun stuff... Like creating a new loop. =)
Everyone can write a chorus drop.
Or let me rephrase that: Everyone can imitate a YouTube video tutorial and make an epic drop similar to the professional producers and artists.
But to take the track further and actually finish the song you need to do some additional time consuming work, like arranging. Expanding that simple short 8-bar loop into something more. Building a complete cohesive song.
How do I finish my song?
In this video I explain some of my thoughts on how to get out of those old habits. How you can practise writing different parts of a song rather than just the drop. Maybe you can spend 20 min just writing an intro one day. Then spend 20 min writing only a verse the next.
I tried to keep this video under an hour (phew) and throw in as much creative tips as I could of how to just proceed in the songwriting and not get too picky about sound selection and sound design. Or writing that perfect melody. Just forget about that for a session or two. Just proceed and go forward. Don't worry if this is not the best song you ever wrote.
How do I finish a song - Break out of the 8 bar loops!
With quantity, quality will come. At least you get finished tracks, and not just some 8-bar loops that you already got tired of before finishing.
Maybe the third, or forth try with this method... might give you the best song you ever wrote. At least give it a shot!
