Games are starting to explore how they can tell stories through interactive means, and ambiguity is one of those tools that enables designers to create rich, information dense worlds for us explore. This video gets into the psychology, art and design of fear using atmosphere, dread and sensory deprivation. To fully understand this , we are going to have to examine the story structures of Little Nightmares, Inside, Limbo, Ico, Dark Souls and Bloodborne, and examine theories as far afield as defamiliarization, Lovecraft, Hyper agency detection modules and Just world Theory.
