I thought it might be fun and/or helpful to give a really quick look at how I capture videos with OBS and then how I edit them into both longform gameplay videos and YouTube shorts on my gaming channel - https://www.youtube.com/@UC2eHpDRz4HCpDtAhXIL7cMg

I've been doing this for a while now and have various different tips on how I do this to ensure I'm optimising my editing process so I can get more done but also capture footage that's useful. Obviously I could record entire sessions, matches or whatever, but I find the replay buffer is the best way to get easy to use footage when using OBS.

So I have a profile setup in OBS. Assuming you know how to setup a basic scene and source already, if not there are plenty of guides on how to do this. I then use replay buffer settings to record a maximum of 500 seconds of gameplay when I press a combination of buttons. You can setup a keyboard shortcut setting so you can just press a couple of buttons quickly to capture that footage and save it. So whenever something funny/great happens, just remember to press those keys.

When the clips are captured, I then just drag them into Davinci Resolve and chop them up into gameplay clips or tips videos. Obviously there's a lot of unnecessary footage potentially, but it's better to have too much than not enough and I know the best parts are usually at the end of the clip.

When editing shorts you can use the same clips and then just filter them and apply project settings and render settings to get them in the right format.
