Did Naughty Dog try to throw us all of the scent of the story of The Last of Us Part II? Yep. As you can see in this comparison video, two different characters speak the same line in the scene with Ellie. When we saw the preview of the game last fall, Joel spoke the line, "Did you think I was going to let you do this alone" to Ellie. But as we know now, after finishing the epic game, Joel was already dead by that part in the game. Instead, the line was spoken by Jesse, the Asian American character. He was still alive and well at that point. Dean Takahashi of GamesBeat asked Naughty Dog about this, and the answer was that the team really wanted the players to be surprised when Joel died in the game -- so it resorted to this trick. We're not mad about it. But it's an example of how closely guarded the secret was, as this clearly took some time to arrange. Of course, when the whole game and story leaked online, there was no point to this misdirection.
