In theory this is how you refill a filter, however it does not go according to plan, these small Chinese filters can be opened to be refilled with activated charcoal, however the problem is the filter is actually very small and lacks the internal capacity for enough activated charcoal to successfully adsorb vapours, grinding the charcoal into powder makes the filter work better but the particle filters at either end are not good enough to contain charcoal powder.
An interesting failed experiment anyway.
