Spyro the Dragon was a huge success for Insomniac games. Selling over a million copies by the end of 1999. It was praised for its simple but fun gameplay and tight controls. So of course the logical thing to do when bringing it over to Japan was to change it.

The Japanese version of Spyro the Dragon was so poorly received that it effectively ended the franchise in Japan. In fact, it was so poorly received that the only other Spyro game released after it was Ripto's rage, but the damage had already been done. The franchise was effectively dead for the land of the rising sun.

So what happened? What the hell did they do to this beloved ps1 classic.
