How the RPG Genre Has Changed Over the Years..
What Defines a Roleplaying Game?
This is a gaming discussion video from a podcast I did a few weeks back on how role-playing games (RPGs) have changed over the years and how RPG elements have been added in other genres of games.
As video games became more popular over the years, we have had different types of gaming audiences from casual gamers to hardcore gamers. Roleplaying games have adapted new game mechanics such as Fast Travel and even been more simplified to appeal to the casual market by avoiding any back tracking that video games may offer.
We have seen many sub genres of RPGs (Action RPGs, Turn Based RPGs, Open World RPGs etc..) enter the scene of gamings and have changed how we see games in these genres.
Games like The Elder Scrolls Skyrim and Fallout 4 are primary examples of RPG games that adapt more action oriented or first person shooting elements to their games.
