How to Add A Guess or Another Account for SPLIT SCREEN on Xbox Series X|S (Best Method)
4Playing split-screen with a friend or family member on the Xbox Series X|S is a great way to enjoy a game together. The process is straightforward, but it's important to know the difference between adding a guest and adding a permanent account.
Method 1: Adding a Guest Account
This is the fastest and easiest method for a temporary play session. A guest account is a temporary profile that copies the host's privacy and online safety settings. It's perfect for when someone wants to jump in and play without creating a permanent account. However, any progress made on a guest account will not be saved.
Steps:
Turn on your console and sign in with your main profile. This will be the "host" account.
Turn on the second controller. Press the Xbox button on the second controller to open the guide.
Navigate to the Profile & system tab. Use the RB button to move to the far right of the guide.
Select "Add or switch."
Choose "Add guest." The Xbox will automatically create a temporary guest account. This account will be signed out and removed from the console when the host signs out.
Launch the game. Once both accounts are signed in, start the game. Most split-screen games will recognize the second controller and prompt the guest to press a button to join.
Method 2: Adding a Permanent Account
If your guest plans to play frequently and wants to save their progress, creating a permanent Microsoft account is the best option. This allows them to have their own gamertag, achievements, and saved game data.
Steps:
Press the Xbox button on the controller to open the guide.
Navigate to the Profile & system tab and select "Add or switch."
Choose "Add new."
Follow the on-screen prompts to create a new Microsoft account. You will need to enter an email address, a password, and other profile information.
Sign in with the new account. Once the account is created, you can sign in with it and use it for split-screen gaming.
(Optional but Recommended): Set your console as the home Xbox. If you have an Xbox Game Pass subscription, setting your console as the home Xbox allows other profiles on that console to share the subscription's benefits, including playing online multiplayer and accessing the Game Pass library.
