It's good to get into the habit of changing all of your passwords on a regular basis -- no less than every six months. This is especially important for email services, such as Google's Gmail, given that your email likely contains more sensitive information about yourself than you realize. For example, this could be where receipts for online purchases go. You may have sensitive financial information that gets routed through your Gmail. You likely have emails from friends or family members discussing very personal information, and more. As always, try and use a complex password that contains a minimum of eight alphanumeric characters that also blends in symbols. In this video, I'll show you how to change your Gmail password through the Gmail app for iPhone and iPad, how to change your Gmail password on an Android device, and finally how to change your Gmail password on a web browser.
First, let's walk through how to change your Gmail password on the Gmail app for iPhone and iPad.
Step 1. Tap to launch the Gmail app on your iPhone or iPad. Your Primary home screen appears.
Step 2. Tap the "Menu" icon in the upper left corner of the screen. The Menu icon features three horizontal lines. A menu flys in from the left side of the screen.
Step 3. Tap "Settings" in the list of options in the menu. The Settings screen appears.
Step 4. Tap the address of your Gmail account that appears toward the top of the Settings screen. A screen appears displaying information associated with your Gmail account.
Step 5. Tap "Manage Your Google Account" in the Account section toward the top of the screen. A Google Account screen appears.
Step 6. Tap the "Personal Info" tab in the row of options toward the top of the Google Account screen. A Profile screen appears.
Step 7. Tap "Password" in the list of options on the Profile screen. A window appears asking you to enter the password associated with your Google account to verify your identity. Enter the password associated with your Google account, and then tap "Sign In." A screen appears asking you to enter your new password in two fields.
Step 9. Enter your new password in the two required field, and then click "Change Password" to change your password.
Now let's walk through how to change your Gmail password on an Android device.
Step 1. Tap the "Settings" app on your Android device home screen. You'll land on the Settings screen.
Step 2. Scroll down to the Personal section on the Settings screen, and then tap "Google." The Google screen appears.
Step 3. Tap "Google Account" in the Account section. The Google Account screen opens, displaying information associated with your Google account.
Step 4. Tap the "Personal Info" tab in the row of menu options along the top of this screen. The Personal Info options appear on the lower part of the screen.
Step 5. Tap the "Password" field in the Profile section. A screen appears asking you to verify your identify by entering the password for your Google account. Enter the password associated with your Google account, and then click "Next." A screen appears asking you to enter your new password in two fields.
Step 6. Enter your new password in the two required field, and then click "Change Password" to change your password.
Finally, let's walk through how to change your Gmail password on a web browser.
Step 1. Open your web browser, navigate to gmail.com, and then log in with your Google account. Your Gmail home screen appears.
Step 2. Click the circle in the upper right hand corner of the screen that either features your profile picture, or the first letter of your first name. A menu appears.
Step 3. Click the "Google Account" button at the top of the menu. Your Google Account screen appears.
Step 4. Click "Personal Info" in the menu along the left side of the screen. The Personal Info window appears on the right side of the screen.
Step 5. Click the "Password" field in the Profile section. A screen appears asking you to verify your identify by entering the password for your Google account. Enter the password associated with your Google account, and then click "Next." A screen appears asking you to enter your new password in two fields.
Step 6. Enter your new password in the two required field, and then click "Change Password." You'll be returned to the Personal Info screen. In the Password section you should see a note that your Google account password was changed a few moments ago.
