Steps:

- Start by clicking the apple logo button at the top left of the screen and then opening system preferences.

- In system preferences, click on “User & Groups” .

- Select your user account by clicking on it, then click on your profile image to open up a popup allowing you to change it.

- You can choose between lots of default Apple images, or use one of your own photos from the photos app.

- If you want to use a custom image that you downloaded from somewhere you will first have to import it to the Photos app.

- Open Photos, and then simply drag your image into it to import it.

- Now close system preferences and reopen it.

- Go back to the user accounts settings and you will find your new photo to use as a profile picture .
