How To Delete Google Photos Without Deleting From Phone Gallery - Easy Solution | HTG
If you want to delete photos from Google Photos without removing them from your phone’s gallery, the process can be a bit confusing. Google Photos automatically backs up images, and deleting them through the app can sometimes remove them from both Google’s cloud storage and your device. However, there’s a way to safely delete only the backed-up photos while keeping the ones stored on your phone.
To check if a photo is backed up, open Google Photos and select an image. If there’s no backup icon, it means the photo is already saved in Google’s cloud. However, the Google Photos app doesn't always make it clear whether a photo is only on your device or stored in the cloud as well. To make things easier, open Google Photos and tap the "Search" option. Scroll down to the "On Device" section—this will show photos that are only stored on your phone and not backed up.
Instead of using the Google Photos app, a better method is to delete photos directly from the web version. Open a browser on your phone, tablet, or computer and go to [photos.google.com](https://photos.google.com/). Log in to your Google account, and you'll see only the photos that are backed up to Google, not the ones stored locally on your device. This eliminates confusion and ensures you’re deleting only backed-up images.
From the web version, select the photos you want to remove and click the trash icon. This will delete them from Google Photos but leave your phone’s gallery untouched. This is the safest way to delete Google Photos without affecting your locally stored images.
