Yes, it's sad but I am still enamored with Battlefield 2 after all these years.

Nowadays, I am running it on Windows 10 1803 64bit. It worked fine as longs as I didn't want to fly any aircraft.

The issue was that my pitch and roll axis were not working at all.

Just a few settings changes on the Helicopter and Aircraft tabs in Options did the trick.

Now I am Death From Above once again.
