1. The first thing you can do to fix this issue is clean the fingerprint reader of your device. The greasiness or dust in the fingerprint reader makes the scanner not work, so make sure to clean and try again.
2. Another way to fix the issue is by updating the app. If you have any updates pending for WhatsApp, then make sure to update it to the latest version from the App Store or Play Store.
