How to Get Dinosaurs to Fight & Unlock the T-Rex in Jurassic World Evolution 2
Welcome to my guide on triggering dinosaur fights to unlock the T-Rex, Giganotosaurus, Ceratopsids, and the Strong gene in Jurassic World Evolution 2. In this video, I'll share two proven methods to force battles between your dinosaurs and reveal a gameplay bug and mechanic that could affect your progress. Stay tuned until the end!
Unlocking Requirements
• T-Rex and Giganotosaurus: For the Giga, you need to release 3 dinosaurs with the strong trait, which in turn requires a dinosaur with 2 fights lost; The T-rex requires all of that AND a dinosaur with 3 fights won.
• Pentaceratops: For the Pentaceratops, and anything after you just need a dinosaur with 2 fights won.
Triggering Fights: Two Main Methods
1. Intraspecies Conflict
This method involves battles between dinosaurs of the same species fighting for dominance. Keep these tips in mind:
o Suitable Species: Larger carnivores typically fight, while tiny carnivores usually don’t. Armored herbivores—such as Ceratopsids, Stegosaurids, and Ankylosaurids—as well as later-game herbivores like the Therizinosaurus and Deinocheirus, are more likely to engage in conflicts.
o Dominance Traits: A dinosaur’s dominance is influenced by its attack, defense, stamina, and social traits (including aggression). To maximize the chance of a fight, ensure your dinosaurs have similar dominance levels so that no clear alpha emerges too easily.
o Early Game Tip: In early sandbox games, releasing several Nasutoceratopses can help jumpstart the fighting process.
2. Interspecies Conflict
With this approach, you create a hostile environment by mixing species that naturally dislike each other.
o Exhibit Setup: Place two species in the same exhibit—this can even be two different types of herbivores. For example, many stegosaurids tend to despise ankylosaurids and ceratopsids, and the feeling is mutual.
My Experience and Some Cautions
I experimented with fights between Torosaurus and Carnotaurus to unlock the T-Rex, but the wrong dinosaur kept dying. While you can use the ambulance to heal your dinosaurs mid-fight, the outcome is still quite random. In the end, my previously peaceful Nodosauruses began fighting constantly, which unlocked the T-Rex for me.
Keep these two important points in mind:
1. Buggy Fight Records: The game is known for bugs—about half of the fights may not register as wins or losses, even if the dinosaurs take damage. I observed that although my nodosauruses fought 4–5 times, only 2 fights were recorded.
2. Avoid Critical Losses: If your dinosaur with 3 wins dies before you can begin T-Rex research, you’ll have to start the process all over. Since the game doesn’t save research prerequisites until you initiate the research, it’s wise to unlock the Giganotosaurus as early as possible.
