Go down to the "Windows x64 Installer" (assuming your PC is windows) and download and install that specific version or whichever one is compatible with your machine.
In this video I show you how to update your Java version to Java 16 which seems to fix a LOT of lag issues in Minecraft, I haven't tried this with older PC's but my new Alienware was having some weird stutters and somebody told me the newer versions of Java fix that, so I tried it and they were indeed correct. For some reason Vanilla Minecraft loves to stutter and just be choppy all around with the bundled Java that comes with the game when you install it, at least for me, and the method in the video is what finally fixed it. Optifine was also having these same issues, and after this I can finally play again. :) It should also be noted that this works for ALL versions, you can run Minecraft 1.7, 1.7.10 or 1.8, 1.8.9 on Java 16 or 16.0.1, just like you can run Minecraft 1.16, 1.16.5 on it too. It works for all of them. :)
