How to install a Nintendo 64 Expansion Pak | N64 FAQ
Here's how to remove your N64 Jumper Pak and replace it with the Nintendo 64 Expansion Pak. The Expansion Pak improved the N64's RAM from 4 MB to 8 MB, and is necessary to play some of the console's classics, like Donkey Kong 64 and The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask.
The Jumper Pak came installed on all Nintendo 64 consoles, and replacing it with an improved Expansion Pak is a quick and easy process. First. remove the cover to the Memory Expansion Port on your Nintendo 64. You'll need a removal tool, which came packaged with Expansion Paks during the console's original run.
Insert this tool, or a flathead screwdriver, into the expansion port, behind the Jumper Pak. You should be able to easily lodge it out of the console, making room for your Expansion Pak. It's as simple as that. Insert the Expansion Pak into the N64's now empty expansion port, put the cover back onto the console, and you're good to go.
Some of the classics from the N64 library that you'll need an expansion play to fully experience include The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Perfect Dark, and Donkey Kong 64. You'll also need it if you want to play any unofficial games on your Nintendo 64 as well.
