In this video I cover how to install and play Command and Conquer Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge on Linux.

I recommend purchasing the Command and Conquer Ultimate Collection available on Origin.

Step 1. Install Wine Dependencies & Lutris.

https://github.com/lutris/docs/blob/master/WineDependencies.md

https://lutris.net/downloads

Step 2. Install Red Alert 2 & Yuri's Revenge.

Launch Lutris, click on the Origin tab on the left hand, click on the Person symbol which will prompt you install Origin.

Follow the instructions from here, install EA Origin, sign into your account and download the game.

Once the game is installed, close Origin.

Step 3. Install the Latest Version of cnc-ddraw.

https://github.com/CnCNet/cnc-ddraw

First, click on the Releases tab, and download the cnc-ddraw.zip archive.

Next, extract the archive and inside should be a cnc-ddraw folder with a Shaders folder, a ddraw.dll, ddraw.ini, and a cnc-ddraw config.exe file.

Open the ini file, and under the [ddraw] section, change both fullscreen and windowed options to true.

For example.

fullscreen=true
windowed=true

Save the file once done.

Next, make a copy of the Shaders folder, a ddraw.dll, ddraw.ini, and a cnc-ddraw config.exe file, and navigate to where the game is installed to.

For me this is located at:

/home/ryan/Games/command-conquer-red-alert-2/drive_c/Program Files (x86)/Origin Games/Command and Conquer Red Alert II

You want to paste the copied content into this location.

Finally, within Lutris, click on the Red Alert 2 game entry and select the Wine configuration option from the second up arrow at the bottom.

From here click on the Libraries tab, and in the New override for library field, type ddraw and click Add.

You will get a message about changing the load order, click Yes when prompted.

Finally, double click on the ddraw entry and make sure it is set to Native, then Builtin.

Click OK, and close any open windows.

Finally launch Origin again, and launch and close both Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge.

This will generate the ini files required for the next step.

Step 4. Fix Game Resolution.

Navigate to the game's installation directory, and open the RA2.INI file, and add under the [Video] section change the ScreenWidth and ScreenHeight to match the resolution of your monitor.

For example.

[Video]
ScreenWidth=1920
ScreenHeight=1080

Save, and repeat the same step for the RA2MD.INI file.

This means that both games will now run at your specified resolution, the menus will still be small, but the gameplay will be the correct resolution.
