About this video: Learning how to make Modded Minecraft server in 1.20.4 is a great way to play modded Minecraft with your friends. In this video, we are going to be making a Minecraft Forge server for 1.20.4. This will let you play any Forge mods that are compatible with 1.20.4 From biome mods to mods that add in new mobs, any Minecraft 1.20.4 Forge mods can be added to your server.
The first step of making a modded server in 1.20.4 is download the 1.20.4 Forge installer. There is a link in the description above to download Forge. Once you are there, click on the “Download Forge” button to go to the official Forge download page. On this page, click on this page, click on the 1.20.4 version on the left-hand side and click “Installer” under download latest. This will take you to AdFocus. Wait 10 seconds here and click “Skip Ad” the Forge Installer will start downloading. You may need to keep or save the file depending on your browser.
Next, create a folder on your desktop and call it “Modded Minecraft Server 1.20.4”. Then, open the Forge Installer with Java. If you don’t have Java, you can download it from the description above.
In the Forge Installer, click on “Install Server”. A red box will appear. Click the three dots in the red box and navigate to and select the Modded Minecraft Server 1.20.4 folder you created. The red box should disappear with the folder selected.
Click “Okay” in the installer, and the Forge server files will install. Once it is finished, open up the Forge server folder and you will have a few files.
In this folder, right-click and create a new text document. Open the new text document and copy and paste one of the codes from the description above depending on the amount of RAM you want your server to have. Paste this in the text document. Then, click “File” and “Save As”. Save this file with the name “run.bat” and make sure the save type as is “All Files”.
You will now have a run.bat file. Lastly, right-click and rename the Forge 1.20.4 file to simply “forge.jar”. Finally, double-click the run.bat file, and your server will try to start. It will fail though, and you will need to open the eula.txt file and change “eula=false” to “eula=true”. Save the file and then double-click the run.bat file again. This time your server will start!
Now, at this point, you are the only person that can join your server. For your friends to join, you will need to port forward the port 25565 on the TCP and UDP protocol. This is outlined in-depth in the video. Once this is done, your friends can join with your public IP address, found at the link above.
Lastly, how to do you add mods to your Minecraft 1.20.4 server? Well, in order host a mods on your server, just add them to the “mods” folder in the server directory. It is wroth noting that every Minecraft 1.20.4 mod you have the server must be installed in the local mods folder of everyone who joins your server. They will also need to be using Forge and playing Minecraft 1.20.4 with it. Sadly, this is a limitation of modded Minecraft.
