About this video: If you are looking for a Minecraft 1.20.4 FPS boost, this is the video for you! In this video, we show you how to make Minecraft run faster even on laptops and other low-end computers. We allow Minecraft 1.20.4 to run with less lag using a Minecraft performance modpack called “NotiFine”. This modpack can allow users, depending on their computer, to achieve over 2,000 FPS.
First things first, you will need to download the NotiFine modpack. In the video, we use CurseForge App for this, but the modpack is also available on the Modrinth App. There are links to the modpack on both launchers in the description above.
Once you have the modpack downloaded, go ahead and launch it. Then, in Minecraft, we can start optimizing things for performance. Generally, we are going to try to get the best performance possible out of Minecraft 1.20.4 using this modpack. That means graphics won’t be great, but it will be playable on laptops and Minecraft will run smoother on PC in general.
To get started, go to Options, Video Settings. Then, click the “Shader Packs” button in the top right. Click to change shaders from “Enabled” to “Disabled”. Click “Apply” at the bottom and “Done”. That is going to be the biggest performance boost from NotiFine with optimizations versus NotiFine without optimizations.
There are some more things we can change though. Going back to the “General” settings tab, we can lower the render distance and simulation distance. The lower these settings the less Minecraft 1.20.4 has to render meaning Minecraft will be less laggy.
If you want to see how much FPS you can actually get in Minecraft 1.20.4, you will want to turn off VSync and set the Max Framerate to unlimited. Just make sure that no matter what you “Apply” any changes using the button in the bottom right. Otherwise, no settings will change.
From the “Quality” tab, setting everything here to “Fast” will increase performance as will turning off Entity shaders and turning mipmap levels to user. Make sure to turn “Entity Distance” to zero as well.
For the “Performance” tab, everything here can be left on. Turning up “Chunk Update Threads” to about half walk can boost performance on some computers. That is very dependent on the computer or laptop you are playing Minecraft 1.20.4 on though.
On the “Advanced” tab, turning CPU Render-Ahead Limit to about half way can increase performance on some PCs. Otherwise, this can be left the same.
For the “More Culling” section, set Frame LOD Range and 3-Face Frame Culling Range all the way down leaving all other settings the same except “Leaves Culling” which can be set to Fast.
As for both the “Antimations” and “Particles” tabs, these can both be set to turn all of them off. The same can be done on the “Details” page for best performance. I do like to leave these settings on though because I like things like the sun and moon and weather.
Lastly, on the “Render” and “Extras” tab, everything can be left as is with no changes.
With that, you now know how to make Minecraft run faster in 1.20.4. This can result in amazing FPS increases up to 5 to 10 times your vanilla FPS depending on the computer you are playing Minecraft 1.20.4 on.
Nevertheless, if you have any questions about how to make Minecraft less laggy in 1.20.4, let us know in the comments. We will try our best to help you out. Otherwise, if we did help you learn how to make Minecraft 1.20.4 run smoother, please give this video a thumbs up and subscribe to the channel if you haven’t already. Thank you very, very much in advance!
