Step 1. Open the group text message chat on your Apple iPhone or iPad that you want to mute.

Step 2. Tap the group name at the top of this screen. A window opens showing you details and options associated with this specific group text message chat.

Step 3. Scroll down this menu until you see Hide Alerts, and then tap to toggle on "Hide Alerts." You can confirm this group chat is muted by navigating back to your message list and finding this specific group chat, which should now have an icon featuring a bell with a line through it next to it. While this conversation is muted, you won't receive notifications associated with new messages in this group chat.

Step 6. Tap "Remove" again. That person will be removed from this group chat going forward.
