Why would you want to get the Minecraft controller mod for 1.20.4? Well, with the 1.20.4 controller mod, you can play Minecraft PC Java Edition with a controller. This is great if you prefer a controller over mouse and keyboard, and it can even be used with tons of different accessibility controllers bringing Minecraft to even more people.
Nevertheless, the first step of playing Minecraft Java with a Controller is downloading the Midnight Controls mod for Minecraft 1.20.4. This is the Minecraft controller mod that we will be using. You can find a download link for Midnight Controls in the description above. Once you are there, click on the “Versions” tab. Then find the 1.20.4 version of the Java Edition controller mod. Click on it and click the “Download” button. Midnight Controls for 1.20.4 will begin downloading. You may need to keep or save the file depending on your browser
From there, we need to download the Fabric API as well. This is linked above, and is similar to download Midnight Controls. Just make sure that you are downloading the 1.20.4 version of the FabricAPI.
Lastly, we need to download and install the Fabric Mod Loader itself. This is the mod loader that the Minecraft PC controller mod users. If you want to use Forge, the Controllable Mod is Forge compatible. However, it doesn’t support 1.20.4 as of the time this video was released.
With that being said, there is a guide in the description above that will show you everything that you need to know about getting Fabric 1.20.4 up and running.
Once Fabric is installed, open up the Minecraft Launcher. Then, click on the “Installations” tab at the top. From there, hover over your Fabric installation and click on the Folder icon that appears. This will open your .minecraft folder. In this folder, you will see a “mods” folder. If you don’t, just make one!
From there, drag-and-drop the Midnight Controls mod and the Fabric API into this mods folder. It is that easy to install the Minecraft controller mod in 1.20.4.
To actually use a controller with Minecraft Java Edition though, you will need to play Minecraft using your Fabric installation. Then, once you are in-game, simply connect your controller to your computer via USB or Bluetooth. When you do, Minecraft will pop-up showing it recognizes the controller. You can then navigate the menus with your controller and of course jump in game. By default, the controls are very similar to the Minecraft Bedrock/Minecraft console edition controls.
