6,060The very first thing you need to know is how to win. Both players start with 8000 life, and once your opponents life hits zero you win. The main way you accomplish this is by summoning monsters from your hand and attacking your opponent.
When you start, you draw 5 cards, and you get 1 normal summon per turn.
Monsters who are level 4 and lower can be normal summoned from your hand without fuss. This can be in either face up attack position, or face down defense position.
If your monster is in attack mode, its able to attack during your battle phase.
During your main phase 1, you can choose to enter the battle phase whenever you want unless its the very first turn of the game.
By default, all monsters get 1 attack, and you can use that attack to either, attack any monster of your choice your opponent controls, or if they have no monsters, you can attack your opponents life points directly. Which means you subtract the atk points of your card from your opponents life total, and hopefully bring them down to zero life to win.
And ygo is all about getting monsters on the field in order to attack your opponents life total to bring them down to zero. And using card effects to control the game state so you can accomplish this.
