How to Summon Monsters - Explained Quickly and Easily
There are 2 basic types of summons, a normal summon, and a special summon.
Every turn you get 1 normal summon for free by the game rules. If a monster is level 4 or lower, you can bring it out in attack mode, or face down defense mode. If it is levels 5-6 specifically, you have to send 1 monster to the GY to bring it out, and level 7 and above, you have to send 2 monsters. And this tribute summon does take up your 1 normal summon.
A special summon is different in the fact that the game rules do not give you any for free. The only way to special summon is through card effects, which tell you in their text how you can perform their special summoning condition.
So Cyber Dragon for example, can special summon itself from your hand, but only under the conditions that you control no monsters, and your opponent controls at least one.
Tearlaments Scheiren for example, can special summon itself from your hand by sending another monster in your hand to the GY. And can also special summon fusion monster's if its sent to the GY by card effect, but what that means will be explained in our fusion summoning video.
Special summons are unlimited, and do not take away from your 1 free normal summon. And because of this, modern meta decks basically revolve around effects that special summon as much per turn as possible, or gaining additional normal summons past the 1 for free like in the case of Floowandereeze.
