How to Remove Fan Noise on Microphone using OBS Settings (Easy Tutorial)
Let’s improve your microphone audio quality by adjusting OBS settings. Here are some steps you can follow:
Noise Suppression:
Open OBS Studio and go to your microphone settings.
Add a Noise Suppression filter.
Set the dB level to be roughly 5-10 dB below your voice. For example, if your voice at a low speaking volume is around -26 dB, set the filter to -35 dB.
Adjust this setting based on your specific microphone and environment1.
Noise Gate:
Add a Noise Gate filter to cut out background noise.
Set the CLOSED Threshold dB just above or at the level of ambient noise when you’re not speaking.
Set the OPEN Threshold dB about 8 dB above that level.
For example, if your ambient noise is around -53 dB when you’re not speaking, set the CLOSED threshold to -53 dB and the OPEN threshold to -45 dB1.
Compressor:
Add a Compressor filter to level out your audio input.
Set the Compression Ratio to 10.
Adjust the Threshold to around -18 dB.
Leave other settings as they are2.
Limiter:
Add a Limiter filter to prevent audio clipping.
Set the limit to -2 dB and release time to 60 ms
