If you prefer to browse Facebook without others knowing when you’re online, turning off your activity status is the perfect solution. By doing this, you can control your privacy better, avoid unwanted messages, and enjoy using Facebook on your own terms without the pressure of responding instantly. The only catch is that you'll no longer be able to see the activity status of other people using Facebook, even if they have their activity status set to on.
So, if you’re ready to browse Facebook more privately, let’s dive right into it.
Step 1. Open the Facebook app on your iPhone, iPad or Android device. You'll land on your Facebook home screen.
Step 2. Tap "Menu" in the row of options at the bottom of the screen. Your Facebook menu opens.
Step 3. Tap the "Settings" icon at the top of this screen. The Settings and Privacy window opens.
Step 4. Scroll down to the Audience and Visibility section, and then click "Active Status" in this section. The Active Status window is displayed.
Step 5. Tap to toggle off "Show When You're Active." A window pops up asking if you're sure you want to turn off your Facebook activity status.
Step 6. Tap "Turn Off." Going forward, your friends will no longer be able to see your activity status on Facebook. Additionally, you'll no longer be able to see their activity status on the platform, either.
