How to Start GAMES in Different Screen or Monitor on STEAM Settings (Best Method)
By default, Steam games will almost always launch on your primary monitor. While there's no single, universal "launch on monitor 2" setting in Steam that works for every game, there are a few highly effective methods you can use.
Method 1: Use Steam Big Picture Mode (Best All-in-One Method)
Steam's Big Picture Mode is designed to be a full-screen, TV-friendly interface. It has a built-in setting that can force games to launch on a specific monitor. This is the most reliable method that works for most games.
Launch Big Picture Mode: Click the Big Picture Mode icon in the top-right corner of the Steam client (it looks like a rectangle with two arrows pointing outward).
Go to Display Settings: Once in Big Picture Mode, navigate to Settings (the gear icon) Display.
Set Your Preferred Display: You will see a "Preferred Display" option. Click on this and select the monitor you want your games to launch on.
Launch the Game: After setting your preferred display, launch your game through Big Picture Mode. It will open on the monitor you selected.
This method works because Big Picture Mode temporarily changes your system's "primary monitor" to your preferred display, which tricks the game into launching on that screen. When you exit Big Picture Mode, your original primary monitor is restored.
Method 2: Use Windows Shortcuts (Quick and Simple)
If you just need a one-time fix and don't want to change your settings, you can use a Windows keyboard shortcut.
Launch the Game: Start the game from your Steam library.
Use the Shortcut: Once the game is running, press Windows Key + Shift + Right Arrow (or Left Arrow) to move the entire game window to the next monitor.
This method works well for games that run in borderless windowed or windowed mode, but some true full-screen games may not respond to this command.
Method 3: Change Your PC's Primary Monitor (Permanent Solution)
If you consistently want to use a specific monitor for all your games and applications, the most straightforward approach is to set it as your PC's primary display.
Open Display Settings: Right-click on your desktop and select Display settings.
Select the Monitor: Click on the monitor you want to make your primary display.
Set as Primary: Scroll down and find the option that says "Make this my main display" and check the box.
Now, all new applications, including Steam games, will open on this monitor by default.
