How to Repair your Game Library on STEAM if Not Working (Best Method)
When your Steam game library is not working correctly, the best method to repair it is to follow a series of troubleshooting steps, starting with the least invasive and progressing to more comprehensive fixes.
The Best Method: A Step-by-Step Approach
1. Restart Steam and Your Computer
This is the simplest and often most effective solution. A quick restart can flush out temporary issues or corrupted data.
Exit Steam completely by going to Steam Exit in the top-left menu.
Restart your PC.
Relaunch Steam.
2. Verify the Integrity of Game Files
If the problem is with a specific game, this is the go-to solution. It checks for corrupted or missing files and replaces them.
Open your Steam Library.
Right-click the problematic game.
Select Properties.
Go to the Installed Files tab.
Click Verify integrity of game files.... Steam will then scan the files and redownload any that are corrupted or missing.
3. Repair the Steam Library Folder
If multiple games are affected or your entire library is not loading, the library folder itself may be the issue.
Open Steam and go to Steam Settings.
Select the Storage tab.
Click on the three dots ... next to the drive you want to repair.
Select Repair Folder. This will re-establish the correct permissions and fix any issues with the library folder's structure.
4. Clear the Download Cache
A corrupted download cache can cause a variety of problems, including issues with your library and game installations.
Go to Steam Settings.
Select the Downloads tab.
Click the Clear Download Cache button.
Note: This will log you out of Steam, so you'll need to re-enter your login information.
