How to TEST your Microphone on PC Settings (Best Method)
Testing your microphone on a PC is a simple and essential step to ensure it's working properly for calls, streaming, or gaming. The best method uses Windows' built-in Sound settings, as it provides real-time feedback and a clear, user-friendly interface.
The Best Method: Using Windows 11 Sound Settings
This is the most direct and reliable way to test your microphone without needing any third-party software.
Open Sound Settings:
Right-click the speaker icon in your taskbar (in the bottom-right corner of the screen).
From the pop-up menu, select Sound settings or Sounds. This will open the main audio settings menu in Windows 11.
Navigate to the Input Section:
In the Sound settings window, scroll down to the Input section.
You will see a list of all your connected microphones. If you have more than one, make sure the one you want to test is selected as the active input device.
Check the Volume Meter:
Below the name of your selected microphone, you will see a blue horizontal bar with a volume slider.
Speak or make a sound into your microphone.
As you speak, the blue bar should react by filling up. If the bar is moving, it means Windows is successfully detecting sound from your microphone.
Additional Test (Optional):
For a more detailed look, you can click on the microphone you've selected in the Input section.
This will open a new page with more options. Here, you'll see a "Test your microphone" feature.
Click on "Start test." Speak for a few seconds. The test will give you a percentage value to show how well your microphone is picking up sound.
