How to Turn Off Auto Updates on STEAM Account (Best Method)
Steam does not offer a single, "off" button to disable all automatic updates for your entire account. This is because Steam's core function is to keep games up to date to ensure they work correctly, especially for multiplayer titles. However, there are a few methods to manage updates and control when they happen. The best method depends on whether you want to prevent a single game from updating or manage updates across your entire library.
Best Method for a Specific Game: "Update on Launch"
This is the most direct and effective way to prevent a single game from updating in the background. It will still update when you go to play it, but it gives you control over when that happens.
Open your Steam Library.
Right-click on the game you want to manage.
Select "Properties".
In the properties window, go to the "Updates" tab.
Under "Automatic updates," change the setting from "Always keep this game updated" to "Only update this game when I launch it."
This is an excellent option if you want to delay an update that you know might break your mods or if you have a slow internet connection and don't want the game to update until you are ready to play.
