Have you been getting random crashes on bootup of Ubuntu 13.04 or Mint 15? Well heres a possible answer. The stock kernel has had some modifications done that have caused issues that I believe mainly affect Nvidia graphics card users.
Upgrading the kernel has totally solved all those issues from me, in this video I show how to do a kernel upgrade in Ubuntu.

Download the latest Non RC kernel from: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/

Download the appropriate packages for your system, as well as the all.deb file.

Open Terminal:
cd ~/Downloads
sudo dpkg -i linux*.deb
Reboot

To remove the auto update packages for the old stock kernel:
sudo apt-get remove linux-generic linux-headers-generic linux-image-generic

You can use Synaptic Package manager to remove old kernels.
sudo apt-get install synaptic
