Natively, the clipboard on your Windows computer can only hold a single item at a given time. However, turning on Clipboard History in Windows 11 can open things up so the clipboard can hold up to 25 items you've cut or copied. This makes using Clipboard History ideal if you'll be copying the same information across multiple documents.

Now let's walk through the steps to turn on and use Clipboard History in Windows 11.

Step 1. Navigate to your Windows 11 home screen, and then press the "Windows" and "I" keys at the same time to open the Settings app.

Step 2. Click "System" in the menu on the left side of the screen. The System options will be displayed on the right side of the screen.

Step 3. Scroll down this menu until you see Clipboard, and then click "Clipboard." The Clipboard screen will be shown.

Step 4. Click the toggle to the right of "Clipboard History" to turn it on. Clipboard History is now enabled on your Windows 11 computer and the most recent 25 items you cut or copy will be added to the clipboard history.

Next let's look at the steps to use Clipboard History on your Windows 11 computer.

Step 1. Position your cursor at the location on your document, or in a field in an application, where you want to paste text you've previously cut or copied into. In this example I'll just use a blank notepad document.

Step 2. Click the "Windows" and "V" buttons at the same time. A window pops up displaying your clipboard history. You can scroll through this list to see the most recent 25 items you've copied or cut.

Step 3. Click the item in the list you want to paste where the cursor is located, and the text will automatically be pasted.

And finally, let's look at how to delete items from the clipboard history in Windows 11.

Step 1. Press the "Windows" and "V" buttons on your keyboard at the same time to open the Clipboard History window.

Step 2. Scroll through this list until you find the item in the history you want to get rid of, and then click the ellipses icon to the right of that item. A menu is displayed on the right side of that item.

Step 3. Click the trash can icon. That Clipboard History icon will immediately be removed.

Alternatively, you can remove all items from the Clipboard History by clicking "Clear All" at the top of the menu. All of the clipboard history items will immediately be removed.
