How to Update GoPro Hero Software

GoPro is always releasing updates for its Hero line of cameras. These updates can deliver feature updates, bug fixes, performance improvements, and more. As a result, it's critical to keep the software on your GoPro Hero camera updated to ensure you're getting the most out of your device. This video will walk you through how to update your GoPro Hero camera using the GoPro app on your smart device.
Now let's walk through the steps to update the firmware on your GoPro Hero camera.
Step 1. Press the "Mode" button on the right side of your GoPro Hero to turn your device on. Your GoPro Hero's screen will turn on.
Step 2. Tap to launch the GoPro app on your smart device. The GoPro home screen appears.
Step 3. Tap the "Camera" icon in the upper left corner of the screen. The Camera icon is a silhouette that looks like the front of a GoPro. The Camera screen appears.
Step 4. Tap the name of the GoPro Hero you want to update in the list of options. If a prompt appears asking if GoPro can join your Hero camera on your WiFi network, tap "Join." A Searching for Camera message will appear on the screen for a few seconds. Eventually, if an update is available, the Camera Update Available message appears on the screen. If an update is not available, you'll see a view through the lense on your GoPro Hero camera.
Step 5. Tap the blue "Update" button at the bottom of the screen notifying you that an update is available. A legal disclaimer appears.
Step 6. Review and scroll down to the bottom of the legal disclaimer. Tap the blue "Accept & Continue" button. The Update Camera screen appears, displaying the status of downloading the update. After the update is downloaded, the screen will change to say Installing Update in the smartphone app. Additionally, you'll see the Camera icon on your GoPro screen, with a down-pointing arrow directly above it, indicating that the updates are being installed on your Hero camera. When the update is complete, the image will disappear from your camera screen, and a blue circle with a white check mark will appear in the GoPro app. Wait a few seconds after this for an All Set message to appear beneath the blue circle with the white check mark.
Step 7. Tap "Done" on the All Done screen. You'll be returned to the initial Camera screen where you'll need to re-select your GoPro Hero device to reconnect with it.
