The default capture mode for GoPro Hero cameras is wide to take advange of the camera's wide-angle lens. The purpose of this is to capture more of your surroundings in the video you capture with the camera. However, the downside of using a wide-angle lens is that it creates a fisheye effect that causes the edges of your video to look like they curve. While it is possible to remove the fisheye effect from your video after you've recorded it, it can be a real headache. If you're in a situation where you know that you're not going to want the fisheye effect in your video, the easiest thing to do is to change the field of view on your GoPro Hero camera from wide to linear. You can do this through either the touchscreen interface on the back of your GoPro Hero camera, or using the GoPro app for smart devices.

First, let's walk through how to remove the fisheye effect on your GoPro Hero before you start recording using the GoPro app.

Step 1. Launch the GoPro app on your smart device, and then tap to view through your camera on the GoPro app.

Step 2. Tap the "Settings" icon in the lower right corner of the screen. The Settings icon looks like a gear. The Settings screen opens.

Step 3. Tap "Field of View" in the Mode Settings section. The Field of View screen appears.

Step 4. Tap "Linear." If you don't see Linear as an option, you'll need to go back to the Settings screen, and tap to adjust the Resolution and Frames per second options until Linear becomes available in Field of View. The highest quality you can record at on your GoPro and capture a linear field of view is a 2.7K resolution at 60 frames per second.

Step 5. Tap "Done" in the upper right corner of the screen after switching to a linear field of view. You'll return to the preview of your GoPro Hero camera on your smart device, where the image will be linear and the fisheye effect will be removed.

Now let's walk through how to remove the fisheye effect on your GoPro Hero before you start recording using the touchscreen interface on your camera.

Step 1. Tap the box in the bottom center part of the touchscreen interface on the back of your GoPro Hero displaying the resolution and frames per second information. The Video Settings screen appears.

Step 2. Tap "FOV" in the onscreen options. The Field of View screen appears.

Step 3. Scroll up and down on the right side of the screen to move through the options. Select "Linear." If you don't see Linear as an option, you'll need to return to the Video Settings screen and adjust the resolution and frames per second. The highest quality you can record at on your GoPro and capture a linear field of view is a 2.7K resolution at 60 frames per second.

Step 4. Tap the "Back" arrow on the Video Settings screen to return to the capture preview, which will now be displayed without the fisheye effect.
