Hi. I'm Max Dalton, and in this video I'm going to talk through how to wave to people in Facebook Messenger.

If you're tired of poking people on Facebook, there's another way you can get someone's attention -- waving. The Facebook Messenger app lets you dial up any individual in your friend's list who is either currently active on Facebook Messenger or who you have an open conversation with, and send them an image of a waving hand that will appear in your conversation thread with that individual. This video walks you through how to wave at someone in Facebook Messenger, and also how to wave back at someone after they've waved at you.

And now, the steps to wave at someone on Facebook Messenger.

Step 1. Launch the Facebook Messenger app on your iPhone, iPad, or Android smart device.

Step 2. Tap the "Home" icon along the bottom of the Facebook Messenger app to ensure that you're on the home screen.

Step 3. Locate the person you want to wave to in Facebook Messenger through either an existing conversation in the Messages section, or in the Active section, which displays a list of your Facebook Messenger contacts who are active in Messenger. Notice the gray hand that appears to the right of the conversation in the Messages list, or to the right of the contact in the Active list.

Step 4. Tap the gray hand icon. The gray hand will turn yellow, and will appear to fly out and wave at you on the screen. After a few seconds, the waving hand will disappear. If you waved to someone you're having an existing conversation with, the gray hand icon will be replaced by a gray circle with a check mark, and you'll notice a message to the left of that stating that you waved at that person. Alternatively, if you waved at someone from within your Active list, the gray hand icon will now be a yellow hand icon. The recipient of the wave will see a message from you with a waving hand that says you are waving at them, and they will be prompted to wave back at you. After they wave back to you, the message will change to an image featuring two hands that says that you have waved to each other.

And now, the steps to wave back at someone on Facebook Messenger.

Step 1. Open the Facebook Messenger message you received from someone waving at you. You'll see a yellow hand that is waving, with a message that says "Tap to wave back."

Step 2. Tap the waving hand icon. A large image of the waving yellow hand will jump to the center of your screen, and after a few seconds it will settle back down into a message that says you and the person who initially waved at you have now waved at each other.
