Here I go over the RAM, discussing shortly the motherboard unofficially supporting non-buffered ECC RAM. There is no option in the BIOS of the Gigabyte Gigabyte 990FXA-UD5 board, and also Gigabyte does not provide a compatibility list for non-buffered ECC RAM modules, so buy such RAM modules at your own risk!
The innards and various features of the Fractal Design Define XL R2 Black Pearl case are also presented. This is a full EATX sized case with 9 PCI/PCI-e slots. Most importantly, it provides a really good noise dampening, so it is the main ingredient in building a quiet virtualization host, which you can actually keep in your apartment.
With an old dual-socket 1U noise-monster my neighbors would be calling the cops on me, and I would go nuts, so this is a good solution.
I go over the cable "management" and also discuss why it is a really
bad idea to use the 7V setting for the colling fans.
When you handle RAM modules, take precautions against statically zapping them. They are really sensitive to static discharge!
The discussion on the antistatic vs. static dissipative plastic bags, and why you should never bench-test your motherboard on top of such a bag will be shown in a different video, because it would be way too off-topic here.
