N. Sanity Beach (みなみのしま Minami no shima) is a famous location situated on N. Sanity Island, and is one of the most recurring locations in the entire Crash Bandicoot series. In this game, N. Sanity Island is a hub world in adventure mode, where it contains several tikis and pools, and a dock where the track, Roo's Tubes, is located. The tracks in it are Crash Cove, Roo's Tubes, Sewer Speedway, and Mystery Caves. Its crystal collecting arena is Skull Rock and the hub's boss is Ripper Roo. It also has the doors to the Gem Stone Valley and Glacier Park hub worlds.
The Lost Ruins (こだいのいせき Ko dai no iseki) is the second hub in Crash Team Racing. The area, like others, contains four tracks, a purple CTR token challenge, a boss (Papu Papu) and a Load/Save screen. It connects to Glacier Park and Gem Stone Valley. The design of the world seems to be based off on the ruin levels of Crash Bandicoot. In Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled, there is a mysterious door located next to the Tiger Temple warp pad. Collecting 5 golden eggs throughout the hubs and taking them to the door would unlock King Chicken as a playable character.
Glacier Park (つるつるゆきやま Tsurutsuru yuki yama) is the third hub world in Crash Team Racing. This is where Komodo Joe is raced on his home track, Dragon Mines. His garage is right in front of the trophy podium. It's connected to Citadel City, N. Sanity Beach, and The Lost Ruins. The hub is based on the snow levels of Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back.
Citadel City (そらとぶようさい Sora tobu yō sai) is the fourth hub in Crash Team Racing. It is also the final secondary hub world in the game. The boss for Citadel City is Pinstripe Potoroo, who can be challenged once all sixteen trophies are collected before the player faces Nitros Oxide.
Gem Stone Valley (ちゃくりくせん Chakurikusen) is the fifth and final hub in Crash Team Racing and its remake, Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled. Although it is the second hub world unlocked, it doesn't have a role in the game until all four Boss Keys are obtained. The entrance to the race with the final boss, Nitros Oxide is here in the door of his spaceship.
Crash Team Racing is the fourth installment in the Crash Bandicoot series. The game's story focuses on the efforts of a ragtag team of characters in the Crash Bandicoot series, who must race against the egomaniacal Nitros Oxide to save their planet from destruction. In the game, players can take control of one of fifteen Crash Bandicoot series characters, though only eight are available at first. During the races, offensive and speed boosting power ups can be used to gain an advantage.
Crash Team Racing was praised by critics for its gameplay and graphics, though the audio was met with mixed opinions. An indirect sequel, Crash Nitro Kart, was released in 2003 for the Game Boy Advance, GameCube, PlayStation 2, Xbox and N-Gage.
A remake of the game, titled Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled, was announced at The Game Awards 2018 and was released on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch on June 21, 2019.
